Conceptually, we like what Vignette is offering in this all natural “wine country soda”. The product is very clean and adult looking, with a design that definitely looks and feels like something that came from wine country. The naming is clever, but the product is, unfortunately, potentially confusing. In our testing, the “Chardonnay” name implied that the product would actually taste like non-alcoholic wine, whereas what it actually means is that the product has juice from chardonnay grapes. Fortunately, the product on the inside is actually quite good, with 50% juice giving it a very natural, defined flavor. It’s clean and crisp, with a very pleasant, smooth finish. Vignette Chardonnay is definitely one of the better CSDs we’ve tried lately, but we are uncertain of the demand for a premium white grape soda. Still, it seems like it would sell well in places that have decent CSD volume, and it might just class up on premise accounts as well.
