Virgil's Sodas: Real Cola

BevNET Review: Virgil's has long since been known as a brand of super premium root beer -- and now they're trying to channel this brand equity into a new cola. Unlike root beer which is perceived as a craft product, cola is about as mainstream as it gets. Virgil's "Real Cola" tries to give it a craft approach, which starts by using a more natural set of ingredients (such as kola nut, cinnamon, nutmeg, caramel, and vanilla, to name a few) than what you typically see in a cola product. The flavor is clean and crisp and extremely enjoyable. The only thing that seems a bit off is the carbonation, which starts out overly fizzy before quickly feeling flat in your mouth. Like the other Virgil's products, the product's exterior gives off a super premium vibe. However, we'd like to see this product take on a slightly more unique identity in the future. Overall, excellent taste, but not quite there in terms of packaging.
