Update Information for This Brand

Manufacturer's Brand Overview: [Edit]
Virgin Colas will be on sale in participating 7-Eleven Southern California stores beginning June 28, 2004 and will expand to Florida in August before spreading across the country. For the launch, the premium colas will be offered in four flavors: Black (cola), Cherry Lee (black cherry cola), Blonde (vanilla), and Jade (lime). Virgin Drinks North America will also introduce a diet cola by the end of the summer, and has plans to later introduce a water beverage, an energy drink and other soft drinks.

Black Premium Cola

Product Type:Carbonated Soft Drink: Regular; Container: 16.9 fl oz PET
BevNET Review: Virgin Black Premium Cola is a drinkable beverage, but it lacks the characteristics that we'd expect to see in a "premium" cola. Specifically, the formulation uses high fructose corn syrup, which results in a somewhat syrupy consistency and a taste that's not much better than Coke or Pepsi. Perhaps the only tangible difference in flavor is that it's slightly less sweet. The packaging has potential to catch the consumer's eye, but our panel had mixed feelings on the look of the silver plastic bottle. Overall, this product is merely mediocre.

Cherry Lee Black Cherry Cola

Product Type:Carbonated Soft Drink: Regular; Container: 16.9 fl oz PET
BevNET Review: Virgin Cherry Lee Black Cherry Cola is, in our opinion, the best flavor of the brand. The body of this beverage has a somewhat syrupy consistency, but it helps give the product a fountain-shop feeling, similar to that of a fountain cherry cola. However, the realistic marketability of this product is niche at best and our guess is that this isn't exactly what Virgin had in mind for this product. Overall, it's a good product but definitely not one of the better tasting CSDs that we've tried as of late.

Blonde Vanilla Cola

Product Type:Carbonated Soft Drink: Regular; Container: 16.9 fl oz PET
BevNET Review: Blonde Vanilla Cola was our least favorite flavor of the brand. The vanilla flavor actually tastes more like a butterscotch flavor and it gives the product a very heavy feeling in the mouth. Beyond this, Blonde has a syrupy consistency that we would have trouble consuming on a regular basis. This product does not compare very well against Coke and Pepsi's vanilla flavored offerings. We recommend they rethink this product before making a full rollout.

Jade Lime Cola

Product Type:Carbonated Soft Drink: Regular; Container: 16.9 fl oz PET
BevNET Review: Virgin's Jade Lime Cola is a refreshing flavored cola beverage, but the syrupy consistency really drags this product down. We feel that the lime flavor only helps accentuate this -- for some reason the citrus flavor highlights the syrupy body. In addition, the cola flavor is purely mediocre and we don't see many consumers switching from Coke / Pepsi over to Virgin. A switch to cane sugar and improved packaging would definitely help.
