Review: Capt. Carrot

(Last Updated: Jun 16, 2014 at 10:56 AM)
Vital Juice’s “Captain Carrot” is a USDA Organic blend of carrot juice, orange juice and almond milk that is designed for kids. From a taste perspective, it’s definitely a well-executed formulation. The orange and carrot juices pretty much mask all of the flavor from the almond milk, but the product does manage to gain 3g of protein from nut milk. And compared with other kid-oriented juices, which often use filler juices like apple or grape, this product has a very clean and true to the ingredient flavor. Packaging is a 10 oz. plastic bottle with a colorful label. From an aesthetics perspective, the product feels like something that's well-executed and professional. However, there are two things that we’d like to see more prominently placed. First, there should be a more obvious callout to the fact that this product contains nuts. Looking at the color of the liquid and the logo (which focuses solely on carrots), it’s very easy to miss the fact that it has almond milk. Currently, “almond milk” is sideways and almost upside down and in a color that blends into the label. We’re sure that Vital Juice will need to change this to avoid consumer confusion and allergy issues. Overall, we very much like the product, but the company needs to clear up this seemingly critical issue.
