BevNET Review: As far as electrolyte and sports drinks go, Vitalyte’s Natural Fruit Punch (along with their other three, very similar offerings) is an average (and very familiar) tasting product. It’s a flavor that we’ve sampled countless times before, with a coloring-free formulation that’s sugar sweetened and lightly flavored with fruit punch flavoring. The electrolyte levels in the drink are on par with other products in the space, but calling it an “electrolyte replacement drink” implied (at least to us) that there would be a heavy dose of electrolytes contained within. Packaging is a stock 16.9 oz. PET bottle, which has a full wrap label. From a distance, it’s a clean looking label that feels technical and slightly sporty. However, upon closer inspection, it’s lackluster, with vertical text that’s hard to read. Plus, the type treatment of the name, which has “vital” in red and “yte” in white, makes the name of the drink confusing (it is vita-lyte, vital-yte, vital-lyte?). Using “vita” and a play on the word “electrolyte” has been done before to the point where we think that this product will be perceived as a me-too product. Overall, this is a product that would certainly suffice if it were the only option available, but it’s hard to imagine that it will, in its current form, find a loyal consumer following.Reviewed on: 4/15/2011
