Covers Products: Rooibos Tea with Moringa - Black Currant, Rooibos Tea with Moringa - Meyer Lemon, Rooibos Tea with Moringa - White Peach

Wicked Lekker is a USDA Organic line of rooibos tea beverages that are enhanced with moringa.

Available in three flavors, including Meyer Lemon, White Peach, and Black Currant, Wicked Lekker is a mid-calorie herbal tea that has 70 calories and 18g of sugar per bottle. The flavors that they’ve created are familiar, which is both a positive, in that anyone can drink them but a potential negative, in that it might not be overly memorable. The only flavor that feels like it needs work is the Black Currant, which has a slightly off note at the finish. We’re not sure if this is the flavoring or the added moringa. Otherwise, we do appreciate how they’ve handled the sweetness, which is really spot on.

We also feel as though we need to comment on their inclusion of moringa, which is a somewhat bleeding edge ingredient that is purported to have a host of benefits. From our perspective, this is something that is still very new, so giving it such prominent placement on the front of the bottle feels a bit risky in that it might turn off more people than it lures in.

Otherwise, the design of the label, which sits atop of a slim, 14 oz. glass bottle, is clean and visually unique as far as the tea category goes. “Wicked Lekker” is something that has an almost silly sound to it, which is sure to catch some eyes. However, it’s hard to say if this is a phrase that can really turn into a brand. Regardless, we think they’ve arranged things nicely and, aside from our concern about moringa, it’s pretty easy to figure out what this product is all about.

In the end, Wicked Lekker is a fine tasting rooibos tea using a playful branding approach to attempt to bridge the gap brought on by the use of  an unfamiliar functional ingredient. While we’re not sure that last part will really stick or not, we think they’ve done a nice job of creating an herbal tea that’s polished looking and pleasant to drink.
