Review: Lemon Lime

Posted: Mar 12, 2012 at 12:00 AM (Last Updated: Mar 21, 2012 at 11:03 AM)
Xiomega 3’s Lemon Lime is a sugar sweetened beverage that is enhanced with ground chia seeds and oil. From a flavor point of view, this product tastes very much like a sports drink (although it’s not a sports drink or enhanced with electrolytes), with a very drinkable and enjoyable lemon lime flavor. The chia seems to have little impact to the flavor, although the product is slightly more viscous and cloudy than a regular sports drink. And, more importantly, it’s better tasting than a standard sports drink. Nutritionally, the product has 65 calories and 15g of sugar per 8 oz. as well as fiber, antioxidants, omega 3, omega 6, B vitamins, and vitamin K. Adding electrolytes and taking a sports angle to it would be better than the current positioning, which we’d describe as overly technical. Visually, this product looks like the product of supplement company, despite the product having a nutrition panel (and therefore technically being a food product). All in all, the packaging is not good at all and by being so technical in design, it seems like they are missing out on a much bigger opportunity that exists in mainstream health and wellness beverages. Overall, they’ve created something very nice inside the bottle, but the unappealing exterior is going to be hard to get past.
