BevNET Review: Z Cola is being promoted at "the Natural Alternative to Diet Soda". The product does not contain an artificial sweetener, rather it contains Stevia. Stevia is a non-caloric herb, native to Paraguay, with a centuries-old tradition of use as a sweetener and flavor enhancer. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) does not permit foods to contain Stevia and, therefore, Z-Cola is labeled as a Dietary Supplement. Stevia is a taste unfamiliar to many. We've tried quite a few beverages made with stevia, and Z-Cola is among the best we've tried. Packaging, on the other hand, is the main issue for the product. The intentions seem to be focused on creating an original product, but the "dietary supplement" label and the large Z make the product feel pharmaceutical in nature. The company is positioning the product with a suggested retail price of less than $1. The soda should then be an affordable alternative for folks seeking a diet soda with a natural zero calorie sweetener.Reviewed on: 11/22/2004
