BevNET Review: Zoom Water is a mixture of two very common ingredients: water and caffeine. Specifically, the 16.9 oz. bottle of spring water has 70mg of caffeine in it, although you’d never know that from taste alone (it tastes like plain water). That said, there’s certainly a consumer out there who would like a caffeine buzz but doesn’t want to consume coffee, soda, or an energy drink. However, caffeinated water, which has been around since the mid 1990’s, has never been a big success, so it’s hard to say what the potential for this product is. Packaging looks very much like a budget effort, with a pretty basic bottle style (despite claiming to be biodegradable) and label design. That might work if this is a pure value play, but it’s a look that’s hard to really get excited about. Plus, we’d like to see the bottle state how many milligrams of caffeine are contained in the bottle. Right now, they offer an inaccurate comparison to 8 oz. of coffee, a 12 oz. soft drink, and an 8 oz. cup of tea -- all of which have completely different levels of caffeine (and more than Zoom in the case of coffee). Overall, this is a perfectly fine product that does what it says, but it feels like its missing something in the branding department that will get consumers excited.Reviewed on: 10/25/2011
