The Head Brewer & Floor Manager will be expected to receive and process raw materials, stage brewing ingredients to keep production running smooth and all beers at optimal quality level. Tasks include but are not limited to all aspects of raw materials handling, milling of grain, wort production, fermentation monitoring, yeast handling and pitching, clarification, transfers, finished beer monitoring, equipment CIP and general sanitation. Hours will vary to align with staffing and production needs. All shifts (day, swing, float, weekend, and night shift) will be required as per the regular rotations by Cellars and Brewers. Blake Farms is a family owned and operated farm that has been in business and serving the local and regional community since 1946. Since Blake Farms humble beginnings, it has grown into one of the country’s largest cider mills pressing over 400,000 gallons of cider a year and having visitors each in excess of 600,000. The ideal candidate for this position will:

  • Have a primary focus to complete the brewing processing in a safe and efficient manner
  • Lead Brewer is responsible for developing and maintaining all brewing related SOPs
  • Responsible for efficiently sourcing all materials needed for brewing and approximating all costs prior to production
  • Communicate and coordinate brewing production needs with production team
  • Time management, staffing, tank space, kegs, materials, etc.
  • Work with Lab Technician to ensure product meets standards of the highest quality
  • Ensure supply of raw materials and other inventory items such as: bulk malt, specialty malts, hops, brewing salts and kettle additives, safety equipment, chemicals
  • Maintain cleanliness of all areas in the brew house
  • Communicate regularly and efficiently with Blakes staff.
  • Arrive to each shift on time with a positive attitude.
  • Gain a full understanding of all Cidery & Brewery Equipment
  • Communicate with the Production Management team and other Cider Makers throughout the day to keep the day organized, running on time, and able to maintain a good workflow
  • Learn to make our core line of ciders from pressing through packaging
  • Maintain tank & batch records, transferring, racking, cleaning through diligent record keeping
  • Perform, request and assist with maintenance of: equipment, door and building, Hi-Lo maintenance, water system maintenance (IE salt, flush filter)
  • Understand and operate within Orchestrated Beer Software
  • Help perform lab tests of juice, fermented ciders, final products and during production as needed to maintain quality
  • Maintain an orderly warehouse and inventory
  • Complete special projects assigned by supervisors
  • Able to work through challenges by setting a professional and upbeat example
  • Formulate new and exciting Beer/Wine/Spirits for Blake’s Hard Cider Co.


  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Brewery / Cider maker experience
  • Product development experience
  • Experience following and improving processes
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from various sources
  • Ability to effectively communicate, in English, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to do routine business math calculations including computation of costs and pricing
  • Writing and math skills necessary to accurately complete a dilution calculations, volume, flow, density, weight, length, pressure and other unit conversions, calculate beer volumes/losses, and alcohol content
  • Mechanical aptitude and experience
  • Excellent understanding of the principles of production
  • Excellent understanding of the principles of Logistics
  • Must be a self-starter with minimal supervision and good follow-through
  • Ability to effectively communicate, in English, both verbally and in writing
  • Able to use Microsoft Office Applications
  • Ability to frequently and repeatedly lift 150 lbs
  • Must be able to remain on your feet for an entire shift
  • Preferred: Operate a forklift safely
  • Preferred: Excellent knowledge of the industry and trends impacting the business.
