  • New Coca-Cola Packaging in Japan...

IMO it's really plain compared with the current one in the rest of world... but at a certain point, it looks like they gave it a retro style...

    What do you think?

yeah. very retro. very 1970s coca-cola.

EXCEPT... they're using the newer, flatter coke zero dynamic ribbon. it doesn't have the arc of the classic ribbon.

personally, i don't think they should mess with the ribbon. it's like changing the coca-cola script. it shouldn't be tampered with.

      I love it!

The pacakging is clean and simple, and looks like Coca Cola again!

Is this just for Japan, or are we going to see it here in the US? It's been 4 years since the current can has been out, is change coming?

Also, why doesn't Coke in Japan use it's Japaneese script?

I don't think so, cause if you see the japanese Coca-Cola website, the packagings of Sprite, Fanta, Cherry Coke, Canada Dry and Powerade are completely different from the rest of the world... but who knows? maybe in the future they will adapt the Coca-Cola Classic logo with the new american Coca-Cola Zero logo... but let's hope they don't do that cause I like the three-colored dynamic ribbon logo better

I like the one color ribbon as well. I'm old school. IMO the three color ribbon distracts my eye from the script.

Well, one would assume it's coming to the US, based on that press release. It's certainly retro.. maybe too retro?

and Coca-Cola won't be the only one that changes packaging in Japan, next April Diet Coca-Cola will be renamed as "Non-Caloric Coca-Cola" and also Coca-Cola Zero will be released in Japan next June...

I also love this new look. I really hope it comes to the US. I also think the US should get that aluminum bottle can package that they have in Japan.

Actually that was the result of the babelfish translator, but I think it's something like No Calorie Coca-Cola or something. The fact is that the "diet" word will stay out of the picture there soon...

I like that plain looking label. In the united states they cram so much other crap on the label that theres barely room for logos anyway.

it's interesting that pepsi's introducing fancy 3-d packaging, and coke is going in the exact opposite direction.

i wonder why... and if packaging even really makes a difference. i mean, when we go to the grocery store, we usually already know which one we like. and at other places (restaurants, fountains, etc) we don't really have a choice anyway; so packaging doesn't really play a part.

Packaging plays a huge role in marketing, hence the contour bottle from coke, angle bottle from dr pepper, swirl from pepsi, etc. If everything was in a plain white wrapper that said "coke" or "Pepsi" or "joe blows snot juice" etc it wouldn't be so appealing to the eyes. It isn't so much for the die hard person that will drink coke, pepsi or whatever or die of dehydration as much as it is for the shoppers who want to try something new. the packaging catches their eye and they think "hey that is new, I'll try that" even if it isn't. Look at energy drinks if they all were silver and blue cans with their name on them, who would be number one?
