Bottled Water Recall Sees 14 Brands Pulled Off Shelves

RSD3WZzRLast week, California-based bottled water maker Niagara Bottling issued a voluntary recall of spring water produced at two of its Pennsylvania facilities between June 10-18 . The move came after the Department of Environmental Control and the Department of Agriculture notified the company of a positive test result for E. coli at its spring sources in Allentown and Hamburg. Fourteen different brands, all supplied by Niagara, were affected by the recall, including 7-Eleven, Shaws, and Wegman’s private label spring water.

In a statement released Monday, Niagara Bottling reported that no E. coli contamination had been detected in any of its products and that the decision to issue the voluntary recall was done “in an abundance of caution and in the interests of consumer safety.” The company also confirmed that it had not received any complaints of injury or illness related to the issue.

According to CNN, Niagara Bottling has since ended its relationship with Far Away Springs, the owner of the two facilities. Niagara spokesman Stan Bratskeir told CNN the two facilities make up less than 3 percent of the company’s volume.

Consumers looking to see if their water is included in the recall can go to the company’s website for instructions on how to identify the recalled bottles.
