WHO WE ARE: 

One rainy day at the University of Oregon, we were in our college apartment, scraping the bottom of yet another empty jar of peanut butter. As hungry college students and athletes, we ate a lot of peanut butter, and on this occasion, neither of us felt like biking to the store in the rain to buy more. So, we decided to try making our own! That day, Wild Friends was born. Less than a year later, we left our college lives behind to pursue our peanut butter dreams. Since starting Wild Friends in 2011, we’ve launched dozens of new flavors of nut and seed butter that are sold in thousands of stores across the country. Through all these changes, one thing has stayed the same: Our mission to make food friendly through delicious products, made with the healthiest wholesome ingredients we can find.

SUMMARY

As the fastest growing nut butter brand in the U.S., Wild Friends is an exciting place to be, and we’re ready to build a Sales Team capable of taking us to the next level. We are looking for an experienced sales leader with a proven ability to hustle and a positive, can-do attitude.

The VP of Sales is accountable for managing, helping to shape and manage the execution of the business plan across the country. He or she will be responsible for the hiring strategy we implement across the country, as well as training and coaching sales team members. The VP of Sales is ultimately responsible for Wild Friends sales strategy and results in all natural and conventional grocery retailers and distributors.

The VP of Sales will be working directly with the CEO to put together sales forecasts, incentivize and motivate the sales team. He or she will also be working directly with our Operations and Logistics Managers to ensure Operations and Sales are working together cohesively. This is an opportunity to make a huge difference in a growing business - supporting core elements of the company through your sales expertise.

Relationships with natural and conventional grocery accounts, broker management, and team-building and managing are essentials. Alongside that experience, we’re looking for a self-starter who is up for the challenge of building a brand from a mental “place of abundance;” we’re small and scrappy, so you need to be resourceful and limitless in your creativity.

JOB DUTIES

  • Report to company founders in the strategy and execution of the business plan, setting and then striving to exceed company goals. Focus across multiple areas such as:

    • Distribution: Ensuring top item placement by channel.

    • Brokers: Assess our regional broker network nationwide, replacing brokers as needed and ensuring they are receiving proper training and support.

    • Hiring and managing regional sales team members across the US

    • Promotional execution and customer-­?specific marketing

    • Forecasting and strategic planning for key accounts, creating and tracking to a promotional budget

  • Attend key buyer meetings and sales opportunities

  • Attend and manage trade selling shows as necessary

  • Track and analyze performance using a variety of data sources, with the ability to deliver insights and action plans for improvement.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

You wake up every day thinking, “How will I get better?,” whether through nailing a sales pitch, better communicating Wild Friends’ brand story, or helping to facilitate your team members’ successes. You can get along with anyone and enjoy stepping into a buyers’ or coworkers’ shoes to understand what makes them tick. You thrive in a creative, collaborative and results-oriented work environment.

  • Strong supervisory skills, with ability to assess development needs and deliver action plans to optimize performance

  • Ability to analyze syndicated data and present insights to support sales objectives in an account.

  • Takes initiative to build rapport and exceed sales goals.

  • Experienced in negotiating at both headquarter and store levels to accomplish results.

  • Solid communication skills, both verbally to build retailer relationships, and in writing to accomplish follow-­?up. Strong listening skills and adaptability to adjust style and message based on customer cues.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous experience in a Director of Sales or VP of Sales role in the Natural channel

  • 5-10+ years experience managing natural/specialty distributors, including an understanding of distributor process and strategies.

  • Strong understanding of broker partner responsibilities and previous experience managing broker efforts.

  • Strong ability with Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Quick learner, logical-thinker and team player;

  • Desire to work in a fast-paced, high-growth work environment, adapting to continually changing priorities and ambitious project timeframes.


SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to travel across multiple markets on overnights, frequency of up to 10-15 travel days per month.

  • Role can be based anywhere in the US, though preference will be given to West Coast / Portland, Oregon based candidates.
