The Garden, a beer garden in downtown Santa Barbara, is seeking a bar manager to oversee operations and manage staff. The Garden is located inside the Santa Barbara Public Market and features an innovative tap system for craft micro and macrobrews from around the world, with 41 beers on tap as well as a carefully curated inventory of bottled beer. The Garden seats 90, and its multiple large screen TVs for sporting events and relaxed environment welcomes any crowd, from beer enthusiasts to the downtown business community to families looking to enjoy a casual meal in the Public Market together.

The bar manager should be a team player and self-starter with excellent communication and problem-solving skills, a strategic thinker who is well versed in staff and hospitality management. Strong operational and leadership experience is absolutely vital to this role, and the ideal candidate will have a proven track record in hospitality operations.

Responsibilities Include

-          Demonstrating effective leadership by communicating with staff, setting an example of work ethic and integrity, setting and maintaining high standards of operation, and training staff accordingly

-          Managing day-to-day operations of The Garden to ensure high operational standards and exceptional customer service

-          Recruiting, hiring, training and scheduling staff, including bartenders, barbacks and cashiers, to ensure smooth operations

-          Creating and implementing operational procedures for bar staff

-          Providing on-going training and education in customer service and beer to staff

-          Providing customers with exceptional customer service in a challenging, fast-paced environment

-          Maintaining a sophisticated beer program for both tap and bottle, to maximize sales while realizing cost efficiencies

-          Accurately managing inventory, including ordering, receiving, maintaining and reporting on stock

-          Possessing knowledge of beer and beer culture, with the ability to communicate that to guests in a friendly and engaging manner

-          Meeting and/or surpassing monthly sales goals and accurately reporting financial data in a timely manner

Qualifications

-          5+ years of successful experience in bar management and operations in hospitality industry, in a project of similar size

-          Knowledge of beer and beer culture

-          Available for flexible scheduling (nights, weekends and holidays) as needed

-          Outstanding verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills

-          Leadership skills with ability to hire, train and motivate staff

-          Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word to create budgets and spreadsheets
