Revolution Brewing is seeking a diligent Production Brewer who shares our same dedication to and passion for quality beer to join our brewery department. Our brewers are responsible for wort production, cellar maintenance, barrel work, sanitation, yeast handling, and QA/QC tasks. The person in this role will also be expected to occasionally share our story as a representative at various events and functions. This position will be located at our production facility in Chicago, IL.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES

  • Wort Production

    • Receiving, handling, and organizing raw materials for brewing process.

    • Work with ProLeit automation to operate brewing vessels efficiently.

    • Run CIP system to clean vessels and cool-in lines.

    • Perform necessary cellar tasks during fermentation.

    • Maintain spent grain storage area and work with farmers on disposal.

    • Follow posted production schedule.

  • Cellar

    • Conduct transfers of beer from fermentation vessels to bright beer tanks using a centrifuge to maximize quality and minimize loss by careful monitoring throughout the entire process.

    • Harvest and management of multiple yeast strains in an aseptic and best-practice manner.

    • Dry hop and fine beers using the dry-hop cannon or scissor lift.

    • CIP of fermentation, conditioning, and bright beer tanks.

    • Analysis of conditioned and bright beer to ensure it meets packaging specifications.

    • Coordinate with brewhouse and packaging operations to ensure timely and efficient operations.

  • Quality Control & Improvement

    • Know and follow GMP and 5S policies, and SOPs as provided by brewery management.

    • Sample each batch during brewing, fermentation and packaging.

    • Work with Head Brewer and Quality Control to test samples in laboratory.

    • Enter batch data into OBeer software.

    • Develop methods and practices to improve quality and process.

  • Maintenance & Safety

    • Keep a safe working environment in the brewery for employees, guests, and self.

    • Operate forklifts and scissor lift in a safe manner.

    • Handling chemicals cautiously, using proper PPE and techniques with knowledge of SDS.

    • Service equipment with the assistance of maintenance staff and outside contractors.

    • Report maintenance issues to the Maintenance Manager in a timely manner.

  • Other duties as assigned by Head Brewer and Brewery Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • A formal brewing education and/or at least 2 years of experience brewing in a Regional Craft Brewery.

  • A positive work ethic.

  • A willingness to learn and collaborate in a team driven environment.

  • Good communication skills, oral and written.

  • Ability to work alone or with a team.                

  • Ability to work under pressure and under timelines.

  • Flexible work schedule and ability to work overnight if needed.

  • Experience with 50+ BBL brewhouse a plus.

  • Experience with OrchestratedBEER a plus.

  • Experience with barrel-aged beers a plus.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

  • Able to lift 50-60 lbs.

  • Able to stand in excess of 8 hours at a time.

  • Able to climb ladders up to 20 feet.

  • Able to work in an environment with high noise levels.

  • Able to work with hazardous chemicals.

  • Able to frequently duck under conveyors/equipment.

  • Able to climb stairs.

  • Able to wear required Personal Protective Equipment.
