Role:

The Supply Chain Planner/Buyer position is a key role within our strategic plan for supply chain management at Vital Proteins. Excellent organizational skills, ability to balance short term priorities and exceptional information analysis skills are a necessity.  The role will handle everything from inventory management, supply planning and demanding planning, forecasting,purchasing and more. Supply chain analysis and continuous improvement are a large part of the position. Reporting to the Supply Chain Manager, this role will be located in corporate office in Fulton Market but on occasion will travel to our warehouse and production facility in the Chicago suburbs.

What you will be responsible for:

  • Execution of the planning and procurement of raw materials to support production requirements through the utilization of (Material Requirements Planning) MRP and other planning tools
  • Deliver assigned supply chain objectives in support of annual BU plan, while balancing material availability against cost
  • Create and maintain requisitions, purchase orders, acknowledgements and resolve invoice issues
  • Use SAP in order to manage customer demand and create purchase orders
  • Interfacing with vendors with respect to price, availability of materials, and lead time, including team development and execution of vendor supply agreements
  • Ensure that problems relating to pricing, delivery, or quality are promptly conveyed to the vendor and resolved in a timely manner
  • Proactively plan future raw material requirements taking into account new product launch timing and upcoming product mix changes
  • Provide forecasts to suppliers as required based on sales and production plans.
  • Assist in production planning
  • Provide documentation on production delays due to raw materials or alternate material use; root cause analysis
  • Research and establish contacts with potential new vendors to develop additional or new sources for raw materials
  • Researching market trends related to assigned commodities to predict cost changes
  • Provide input into the Business Planning Cycle by providing annual volume, pricing and trend forecasts
  • Inventory Management
  • Daily communication to support replenishment of on-site levels based on demand
  • Engaged in inventory analysis
  • Update cost saving reports monthly or as required to support Business objectives
  • Participation and/or leading a cross-functional supply chain project

Who you are:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Preferred 1 + years relevant and/or company-focused experience required in a supply chain function involved in material planning/purchasing and production scheduling
  • SAP ERP and/or similar ERP with knowledge of the Purchasing, Planning, and Inventory Management modules preferred
  • Holding a CPIM, CPM, or CPSM designation is a plus
  • Proven track record and experience in purchasing and planning  
  • Experience and knowledge of SAP preferred
  • An interest in continuous improvements
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Must be comfortable  working  with all levels of staff and management
