COMPANY OVERVIEW

Tender Belly is a rapidly growing branded meat company (the “Company”), based in the Denver, CO area. With over $10 million in sales, Tender Belly sells products to customers in the foodservice and grocery channels, as well as online. The Company’s Founder/CEO and private equity investor have decided to hire a Manager of Foodservice Sales to immediately assume responsibility for the foodservice sales function (as detailed below). This is an exciting opportunity to join an emerging brand in an entrepreneurial environment as the Company is augmenting its team in several key functions to support its rapid growth objectives.

POSITION AND OPPORTUNITY SUMMARY

We are seeking a Manager of Foodservice Sales who thrives in a fast-paced, start-up culture and seeks to become a high-impact leader and thought partner within a dynamic executive team. You will lead the current field sales managers and collaborate with the leadership team to maximize sales effectiveness. You will achieve quarterly sales goals that you help establish along with the leadership team. You will manage the sales pipeline to maximize sales accountability and efficiency with the end goal of opening up profitable strategic customers aligned with the Company’s growth objectives. A key dependency here will be to collaborate with the leadership team to develop and establish a shared marketing and sales funnel to identify and develop targeted customers and meet company revenue and profitability goals.  More specifically, your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Create a culture of success through leading by example.  This is a hands on “doing” role that also requires managing a small but growing field sales team
  • Management of current key account relationships with high-growth restaurant chains
  • Set and achieve sales goals in collaboration with the leadership team
  • Manage and develop the sales team to deliver profitable growth
  • Become known as an employer of choice and a team that top salespeople want to join
  • Define and oversee sales compensation and incentive programs
  • Define and coordinate sales training programs
  • Define sales processes to drive desired sales outcomes, built on a foundation of a shared marketing and sales funnel with shared marketing and sales goals
  • Provide detailed and accurate sales forecasting
  • Monitor customer, market and competitor activity and provide feedback to company leadership team and other company functions
  • Work closely with the marketing function to establish successful demand, customer, channel and partner programs
  • Manage key customer relationships and participate in closing strategic opportunities
  • Travel for in-person meetings with customers and distributor partners Represent the Company at key executive functions where customers or key prospects are present
  • Clearly articulate the value proposition of Tender Belly to prospective customers
  • Keep internal team members and shareholders updated on sales progress
  • Coordinate and manage weekly and monthly one-on-one and team pipeline reviews, meetings and training sessions to ensure ongoing improvement and best-practice sharing
IDEAL CANDIDATEExperience, Capabilities and Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree at minimum
  • Eight or more years in foodservice sales, including at least three years sales management
  • Experience scaling a branded food company to $50 million in sales
  • Key account experience in  developing and managing signature independent restaurants and regional chain restaurant accounts
  • Understanding of the importance of consultative selling, promotion management and customer profitability analysis
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Professional integrity, character and commitment
  • Effective time management skills
  • Highly computer literate: CRM applications, Excel, PowerPoint
What you’ll need to do in the first 90 days in this role:
  • Align on key account targets and priority geographies for expansion
  • Develop sales pitch, fact-based selling tools, key objectives, and compensation system for current field sales team
  • Assess and lead current field sales organization
  • Work with founder/CEO to develop relationships with existing core customers
  • Provide a reliable forecast for the following two quarters and maintain on a rolling basis
  • Gain the respect of each member of the executive leadership team
What you’ll need to do in the first six months in this role:
  • Open up new markets and key customers
  • Adjust and add to sales team based on performance
  • Complete 2019 budget with bottoms-up customer approach
  • Develop a positive reputation within and outside of Tender Belly as an honorable and respectable problem solver and company spokesperson

The Manager of Foodservice Sales will receive a market compensation package. The role would include a market base salary, an annual bonus opportunity and potential for participation in an equity incentive based on performance.
