Hi-Wire Brewing, an award-winning craft brewery based in Asheville, NC, is hiring a Tap Room Manager for our currently under-construction Durham, NC expansion Tap Room.  This new Tap Room is expected to open in the first few weeks of October 2018, and the candidate will help with layout, buildout, and organization of the new space, as well as hiring bar staff.  Day to day duties to ensure the “Hi-Wire Experience” is consistent across all locations include:

  •  Scheduling
    • Tap Room Manager is responsible for deciding shifts to provide great customer service, to make sure every bar shift is filled with a bartender, and to keep record of this in our scheduling app.  The Tap Room Manager will be responsible for approving all shift trades
    • Tap Room Manager is responsible for maintaining adequate staff numbers to fill all shifts and have staffing for all events
  • Inventory Management
    • Beer
      • Tap Room Manager is to project beer needs, and is responsible for the delivery and stocking of the tap room.  Beer will be ordered with adequate lead time to ship from the Asheville production brewery
      • Complete end of the month inventory for tax purposes
      • Order and keep adequate stock of guest beverages, including wine and cider
    • Merchandise
      • Tap Room Manager is to keep 30 days inventory of all merchandise in stock.  Manager is to follow current SOPs in regards to inventory in Hi-Wire’s brewery management software.  Merchandise is ordered from the production brewery in Asheville
    • Cleaning Supplies
      • Bar manager is responsible to order and stock all cleaning supplies for the Tap Room, as well as implementing a cleaning schedule for the bar staff
  • Day to Day Taproom Responsibilities
    • Ensures bartenders are following items on daily opening and closing checklists
    • "Intangible" items in the tap room, such as making sure music is correct level, lighting is correct, etc to optimize customer experience
    • Ensuring beer menus are printed and up to date
    • Alerting bartenders to new beers on tap, new procedures, new merch, etc
    • Cash handling
    • Responsible for the hiring, reviews, disciplinary and corrective actions with team
    • Responsible for assessing and adjusting Tap Room operations to drive efficiencies and maximize sales
  • Events
    • Tap Room Manager will be responsible for running both small and large scale festivals/promotions regularly at the Durham Tap Room location with support from Hi-Wire’s PR and Events Coordinator
  • Bartender Education
    • Providing beer education opportunities for staff
      • Styles, pouring techniques
    • Keeping bartenders up to date with current Hi-Wire distribution and sales updates
    • Alerting bartenders to upcoming beer releases and beer availability

Desired Candidate:

  • Minimum of 2 years in a Tap Room/Operations Management position within the bar/restaurant/brewing industry
  • In depth knowledge of the craft beer industry and emerging trends
  • Must be self-motivated and have excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Position requires time management and problem solving abilities
  • Must have and maintain a clean driving record
  • Candidates must have a flexible schedule with the ability to work nights and weekends
  • Candidates must have a positive and “can-do” attitude at all times
  • Currently lives in the NC Triangle and is well connected in the beer industry
  • Previous event management experience
