At Raaka, we make unroasted dark chocolate. We love sharing the bold, fruity and tangy flavors present in unroasted cocoa beans. We make uncommonly delicious chocolate from scratch, bringing the best out of single origin cocoa through creative craft and whole food ingredients. Since 2010, we’ve been introducing people to a new taste of chocolate, offering bars with Tanzanian cocoa nibs aged in bourbon casks, bars steamed over simmering wine and rum, and bars made with both classic and unusual pairings like mushrooms, smoked teas, vegetables, and spices. We purchase fine flavor cacao directly from cooperatives and farms across the world and we make everything from bean-to-bar at our factory in Red Hook, Brooklyn. No one makes chocolate like we do, and we’re always looking to make people think deeply and differently about the chocolate they eat.

Job Description

We’re seeking a Director of Sales to lead our sales team as we grow our brand by managing distributor and brokerage relationships, opening and maintaining accounts in grocery and specialty food retailers, and representing Raaka at trade shows and other forward facing events.

Primary Objectives

  • Meet wholesale team quarterly and yearly growth goals

  • Expand Raaka’s presence in traditional grocery retailers

  • Ensure that other members of the sales team have the support and guidance to meet their goals

  • Develop and manage high volume and priority accounts  

Primary Responsibilities

  • Maintain relationships with Raaka’s independent retailer, distributor and brokerage network, including Supplier Relationship Managers, Buyers, Account Managers, Sales Representatives and Brokers

  • Develop and deliver on trade plans and promotional strategies

  • Set and manage the wholesale team and trade show budget

  • Manage relationships with priority direct and co-branded accounts

  • Plan and manage Raaka’s exhibits at major trade shows per year and assorted tabletop events - this will necessitate out of town travel and work during occasional  weekends

  • Pursue new business and make presentations to key potential retailers

  • Ensure that the entire wholesale team is maintaining and growing business through excellent customer service, relationship management, merchandising monitoring and quality outreach

Required Qualifications

  • 4+ years sales experience in specialty food, preferably with a high profile national brand

  • 2+ years experience working with CPG distributors

  • 2+ years experience managing a CPG sales team

  • Exceptional written & oral communication skills

  • Friendly, positive attitude

  • Preexisting relationships in the worlds of CPG and specialty/grocery sales

  • Strong organizational skills and experience using Google Apps and CRM software

Preferred Qualifications

  • Passion for great food and socially conscious business

  • Valid driver’s license

  • The ability to lift and carry items up to 50 lbs.

Reports to:  CEO


  • Salary + Commission. Compensation package will be commensurate with industry standards, and depends on experience. Commission is paid monthly.

  • Stock: Negotiable. A meaningful ownership share of Raaka is available for the right candidate.

  • Stock Options: Options awarded on a 4 year vesting timeline, with first options vesting after 1 full year of employment. (­All full time employees receive stock options.)

  • Health Insurance: Medical, dental, and vision. Raaka covers 50% of monthly medical insurance costs.
