Iron Monk Brewing Company Seeking Head Brewer

Iron Monk Brewing Company is the first and only craft brewery in Stillwater, OK (home of Oklahoma State University).  Located in the historic downtown, we operate a 40bbl brewhouse with statewide distribution as well as a tap room that regularly features 10 different Iron Monk brews.  Oklahoma has recently modernized many of its liquor laws and those changes have correlated with rapid growth in our brewing operations. 

We have an open position for Head Brewer that will ideally be filled by early December 2018.  Our new head brewer will have substantial commercial brewing experience, proven leadership skills, a passion for creating and brewing new recipes and a strong team-oriented mindset. 

Our Head Brewer will exhibit both creativity and attention to detail as they lead the production and canning operations at Iron Monk.  We have space to grow and the opportunities are tremendous for the right person who steps into this challenging and exciting role.  You’ll work closely with the Co-Founders, our Director of Sales and Marketing, as well as the production and tap room staff.  We can’t wait to meet our new Head Brewer!  


  • Oversee all brewing and packaging operations
  • Brew our existing line-up of beers
  • Manage production schedule for distribution and tap room
  • Lead weekly production meetings
  • Craft new recipes for distribution and tap room
  • Enhance our Standard Operating Procedures and write a training manual for production personnel
  • Ensure adequate inventories are maintained for all brewing ingredients, yeast, cleaning chemicals and supplies
  • Continually seek opportunities to improve production quality and efficiency
  • Train production personnel
  • Maintain detailed production records
  • Develop relationships with suppliers to get favorable pricing and prompt order delivery 
  • Ensure production space is always clean and well-maintained
  • Ensure a safe working environment
  • Lead regular meetings with tap room servers to educate them on the beers we serve
  • Interact regularly with customers at festivals, special events and in the tap room

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum 2+ years of recent, daily commercial brewing experience including recipe development, brewing, cellaring, packaging, cleaning and sanitizing
  • Should have a good understanding of quality assurance and quality control
  • Ability to work collaboratively, as well as independently with no supervision
  • Must be self-motivated
  • Must be able to multitask
  • Positive attitude is key
  • Proven ability to manage other people effectively
  • Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to work in close consultation with the co-founders on all aspects of brewing operations
  • Willingness to assist with tasks outside your key responsibilities
  • Ability to lift heavy grain bags and kegs, as well as stand for long periods of time
  • Willing to pass a background check as applicable by law

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Our ideal candidate will have experience brewing on a 15bbl or larger system (we have a 40bbl system)
  • Experience with commercial brewing software
  • Experience brewing for both distribution and tap room
  • Strong mechanical background and skills with the desire and ability to troubleshoot and resolve mechanical problems
