Lourdes University invites applicants for the position of Assistant Professor of Craft Beverages/Business. This is a full-time, nine-month, faculty position beginning in the Fall of 2019. This position will teach undergraduate courses in the Craft Beverages major. Faculty load is four (4) courses per semester in face-to-face, hybrid or online academic format.
This position will teach a range of courses in craft beverage production but will be related to the successful candidate's areas of expertise and could include: sensory evaluation, beer styles, wort production, or the business of the brewing, distilling or wine industry. Courses could also include craft beverage operations, quality, brewery/distillery/winery engineering, raw materials, malting, fermentation, brewery microbiology, management, career development, introductory and specialized courses. Our Craft Beverage curriculum is a practical, hands-on program taught by faculty who are experienced practitioners of the craft. Our learning objectives and curriculum are focused on managing a craft brewing facility.
Teach a range of courses related to craft beverage production, operations, and business management
Identify and implement potential internships
Provide curricular leadership for determining the specific educational principles the program must achieve through established curriculum
Oversee appropriate laboratory space and necessary equipment
Deliver classroom instruction that ensures the curriculum design is consistent with best practices and industry standards
Present a dynamic classroom presence and be versed in multimodal teaching.
Participate in student recruitment and retention initiatives
Develop and assess curriculum
Supervise internships and capstone projects
Advise students academically
Initiate and develop mentoring, community engagement and high impact educational practices as well as a commitment to collegiality, academic citizenship and cultural diversity
Participate in a minimum of one faculty and/or university committee.

Excellent written and oral communications skills

Ability to work with first generation students and advise students on academic matters including course scheduling
Ability to provide guidance and advice for students regarding academics and career development
Ability to demonstrate dedication to the mission of Lourdes University, evidence of excellence in teaching and potential for significant scholarship and/or demonstrated experience in a professional role
Full-time, nine-month, exempt
Master’s degree in brewing science, fermentation science, food science, food systems management, hospitality, business, education, nutrition, or closely related field; Ph.D. preferred
Demonstrated understanding of and experience with current production practices and the business of craft beverages
