POSITION AND ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW:
Fort George Brewery is announcing the search for a Financial Controller. This position is a key member of the senior management team and reports directly to the owner(s). This role is responsible for all aspects of financial processes and reporting for the company. It will provide guidance on major strategic and capital decisions from a financial perspective and support all departmental managers to help them achieve their goals. The Controller will be the primary liaison with the outside accounting firm and banking relationships and will assure the company technology has an industry leading strategy.

Fort George Brewery is a growing company which operates two separate breweries (small-batch and production/packaging), a craft-only distributorship, two full-service destination restaurants, and a small beer focused taproom in historic Astoria, Oregon.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

MANAGERIAL

GENERAL

-- Responsible for all General Ledger activity including sub ledgers for Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Fixed Assets

-- Provides timely and accurate monthly financial reporting for the company with appropriate analysis for a monthly management

review meeting

-- Coordinates annual budgeting process with appropriate assistance to departmental managers; assures the budget corresponds with the company's business and strategic plans

-- Provide analysis regarding profitability by sales channels, products, and customers

-- Establishes appropriate inventory control processes to assure inventory count and value accuracy are properly analyzed for excess

and obsolescence

-- Manages banking relationships and ensures accuracy of all loans and credit lines

-- Develops labor and material cost analyses, reviews production levels, establishes and reports appropriate variances

-- Manages and assures company compliance with all state/federal tax requirements, including documentation and record retention

-- Oversees the payment and tracking of all taxes and filing of all required paperwork

-- Oversees and reviews all accounting activity and payroll processing and reporting

-- Maintains fixed asset software, tracks monthly depreciation and files all required paperwork

-- Monitors receivables to ensure credit risk is mitigated and collection efforts are effective

-- Coordinates the annual independent review and preparation of annual tax returns

-- Hires, trains, supervises, motivates, and develops accounting and IT staff; manages schedules and workflow

-- Evaluates and participates in contract negotiations with key vendors

-- Works with department leaders to manage the company’s information services, including inventory management and POS systems ensuring proper use and effectiveness



COMMUNICATION & PARTICIPATION

-- Maintains high level of communication with owner(s) and all members of the senior management team

-- Actively participates in key meetings

-- Attends industry functions as required

-- Responds positively and quickly to voicemails, emails, and customer concerns in a timely manner, both internally and externally

-- Treats all employees with dignity and respect; contributes to an environment where all employees do the same

-- Builds relationships with outside service providers such as the CPA firm, legal firm, and lenders to assure good communication and coordination of efforts and support



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, & QUALIFICATIONS

-- High level of understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and practices

-- Experience with cost accounting in a manufacturing environment with related reporting and analysis

-- Prior experience within a brewery is preferred

-- Strong organizational, problem solving, and analytical skills

-- Ability to manage priorities and workflow

-- Experience in budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting

-- Experience in managing and using technology to enhance performance in all areas of the company

-- Attention to detail and accuracy

-- Exceptional proficiency in Microsoft Excel, and proficiency in var. Google suite programs (e.g. Docs, Slides, Sheets)

-- Bachelor’s degree in accounting; CPA/CMA preferred and 5 to 10 years of related experience-- Experience in business and strategic planning; MBA preferred

-- Experience in developing and managing a company’s IT strategy and IT department

-- Proven leadership and supervisory experience

-- Excellent written and verbal communication skills

-- Ethical and honest, ability to maintain confidentiality
