Golden State Cider is searching for an experienced Director of Production to join our growing team! The Director of Production is responsible for scheduling and overseeing all aspects of the Production Department.  

 

Job Responsibilities:

PEOPLE AND COMMUNITY

  • Build, develop and lead a team of passionate, effective production employees by facilitating an environment that fosters strong team dynamic through success recognition, team empowerment, active coaching, staff education, and project orientation

  • Develop operational goals and objectives for cidery operations, build relationships with GSC partners, Distributors and Vendors

  • Establish best in class processes and programs associated with cidery operations and safe work practices

PROCESS & IMPROVEMENT

  • Manages all production elements for Core Cider Production

  • Continuously innovate and improve SOPs to meet CQI Initiatives

  • Identify technologies and opportunities to improve operational efficiency and drive a culture of continuous improvement throughout production team

  • Develop and review QA/QC program to ensure consistent, quality finished goods

  • Develop and propose strategic goals for cidery operations and establish KPI metrics; effectively communicate the plans and development steps to meet goals

  • Develop best practices for operations throughout the Cidery, and oversee all design and operation improvements to the facility systems and equipment

FINANCIALS & PLANNING:

  • Contribute to large-scope production planning and forecasting, and manage and maintain production budgets

  • Manage and oversee the budget for equipment purchases and other major expenditures. Assess capital equipment purchases and provide short term and long-term capital recommendations to facilitate continued growth and sustainability

  • Oversee the purchasing and negotiations for all supply chain inventory items, as well as the inventory management of above and finished products

  • Support expansion of GSC business into adjacent areas of interest

SAFETY & COMPLIANCE:

  • Develop, maintain, and improve facility programs. Set initiatives to ensure compliance of OSHA and other related organization’s standards

  • Ensure compliance in practices with TTB, ABC, and associated government agencies

  • Actively lead and participate on the Safety Committee, to ensure organizational compliance in equipment, training, and communication to the team is adhered to

 

Skills & Qualifications:

  • 10 years of experience in a related production environment, especially in a cidery, brewery, or winery setting with 5 years of experience in a management position

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Fermentation Science, Food Science, or equivalent experience

  • Proficiency in Google Suite, Microsoft Suite, and winery management software. Ability to learn additional cidery management programs necessary.

  • Forklift Certification and proven ability to safely operate a forklift, scissor lift, and pallet jack

  • Excellent communication skills, with experience managing employees in a manufacturing setting

  • Strong reading, writing, and mathematical skills, as well as mechanical aptitude required

  • Strong and proven work ethic, and ability to multi-task workload

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

?      Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 55 pounds

?      Ability to work on a platform ladder at heights up to 20 feet

?      Must be able to participate in critical assessment of ciders.

?      The employee works on wet floors and with wet equipment.
