The Communications Director is responsible for leading the development and implementation of a cohesive brand communication plan across paid, earned and owned initiatives. Reporting to the VP of Marketing, this role aligns marketing plans with over all business strategy to support specific brand initiatives. This role will drive brand awareness while building brand affinity, adoption and advocacy.
- Provides leadership to communications team; establishes and monitors performance and developmental goals, assigns accountabilities, sets objectives, establishes priorities, conducts annual performance reviews
- Identify, manage and build relationships with key external partners including media, agencies & consultants to maximize their value to Sierra Nevada
- Develop story and content ideas aligning with a deep understanding of the needs and profiles of key media outlets and social media channels
- Manage proactive media relations to achieve quality, high-impact placements on a regular basis
- Own the company's relationships with top-of-line consumer and trade press as well as social media influencers
- Create and drive digital and earned media strategy; analyze the online and earned conversation to guide engagement strategy and share insights with appropriate teams across the organization
- Lead Media Manager and Media Agency in the development of Sierra Nevada’s paid media strategy
- Partner with Brand Management team and Media agency to develop detailed media plans, including channel strategy, media mix allocation, target audience, markets, and reach and frequency goals
- Partner with Research Manager to develop test and learn road map, to assess media effectiveness and develop recommendations to optimize media plan
- Define and execute on a consistent and engaging internal communications strategy in partnership with the leadership team
- Maintain an understanding of industry trends and changes in the digital space and the impact these changes have on our overall digital strategy
- Manage departmental budget through effective analysis, forecasting, and control

- Master’s degree in communication, public relations, or journalism required OR any combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved
- Nine (9) years’ progressive communications experience at a digitally led lifestyle brand or digital agency required including significant earned media experience required
- Seven (7) years’ management or leadership experience required

- Strong writing, editing, proofreading abilities, including ability to present concepts verbally
- Superior project management and time management skills
- Occasional travel required (10-20%), primarily to conferences, agency or distributor meetings, and seminars

This job is often in a quiet office setting with occasional exposure to a manufacturing environment, which may include wet or humid conditions (non-weather), exposure to moving mechanical parts and loud noises, which may occasionally require hearing protection.
