Job Summary: The Head Brewer is responsible for leading Wild Mind’s brewing operations, including ensuring all brewing equipment is running properly; managing the operation of the brewhouse and wood cellar; supervising brewing and packaging staff; ordering, tracking, and managing raw ingredients and materials; working with others to create, package, and market beers; keeping records; and ensuring quality control. The Head Brewer must create, communicate, and implement long- and short-term plans to help achieve company goals, including safety, quality, and customer service. This position is full-time and reports to the President of the company.

Head Brewer Responsibilities

  • Manage daily operation of brewhouse and wood cellar

  • Verify all beers meet quality control standards

  • Design and brew beers that align with the Wild Mind brand and are both salable and interesting to consumers 

  • Receive and store raw materials

  • Work safely with strong chemicals

  • Order ingredients and stage deliveries

  • Deal with barrels: filling, transferring, blending, cleaning, and maintenance

  • Use brewery management software and keeping detailed record-keeping

  • Assist in packaging and cleaning, as needed

  • Maintain an orderly and safe work environment in brewery/cellar and entire facility

  • Proficient computer skills (word processing, spreadsheets, email, etc.)

  • Work Wild Mind events, as needed

  • Represent Wild Mind at festivals and events, as needed

  • Help build, foster, and carry-on Wild Mind Ales culture

  • Input into project planning software to ensure company goals are being met


  • Professional brewing experience required

  • Passion for craft beer

  • Management experience in a production brewery 

  • Recipe development and pilot batching experience 

  • Advanced practical brewing knowledge

  • Ability to manage all aspects a brewing operation

  • Ability to schedule and manage production and production staff

  • Able to work a flexible schedule when necessary

  • Strong organizational skills and cleanliness

  • Understanding of health and safety compliance and implementation

  • Physical ability to be on feet for long periods of time and lift at least 55lbs
