CFS is a New York State start up brewery (2,400 sq. ft) and taproom/restaurant (3,500 sq. ft) in the mid-Hudson Valley region. Under the guidance of a Head Brewer we will produce high-quality craft beers that embody the spirit of the verdant Hudson Valley and its rich historical and multicultural past. 

We are currently looking for a passionate and dedicated individual with large brewery experience wanting to a more hands on and creative role and to help us with the start-up of our brewery and taproom. He/she will help design our brewery space, plan our initial beer recipes and lead our brewery facility. The Head Brewer will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of operations including but not limited to planning for and setting up the brewing facility, packaging & quality management. Creating delicious and innovative beers that our customers will enjoy and working with the Front of the House team to continue product innovation and development will be the cornerstones of this role. This role will be part-time during the start-up phase and become full time in 2021. 

More specific responsibilities are noted below:

  • Participating in the selection of the 15-20 BBLs brewery equipment and setting up the layout of the brewing space – fall 2020
  • Formulating and perfecting beer recipes and ensuring readiness for taproom opening in Summer 2021
  • Leading all elements of brewing, packaging and quality management operations
  • Direct hiring and supervision of all brewery staff members; maintaining staffing schedules and monitoring of labor budgets
  • Managing production schedules, inventory, reporting, budgeting and forecasts
  • Maintaining the safe and effective operation of brewery equipment and other related machinery and training staff on systems, processes, and recipe development
  • Working in tandem with the owner team of CFS on new beer and product development process
  • Responsible for procurement planning of raw materials necessary for production; 
    Our ideal candidate looks something like this:
    •    Minimum of 5-years’ experience in a commercial production brewery •    Experience hiring and managing others •    Willingness to travel for events/festivals  •    Computer literacy and familiarity with Microsoft Excel 
  • Collaborative spirit with a hands-on attitude and a strong work ethic  •    Open communicator with an ability to give and receive constructive feedback  •    Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some weekends and evenings  •    Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills  •    Strong interpersonal skills and willingness to be an advocate for the product and the craft beer industry at trade shows and other evens
  • interest in and skillful at training tap room staff in the beers produced
    Physical demands / Working conditions:
    •    Frequent lifting: up to 60 lbs. •    Frequent moving: up to 165 lbs. •    Ability to perform the essential functions of the job such as operating production and packaging equipment, driving a forklift, and operating pallet jacks •    The duties and responsibilities are generally performed in a brewery environment  •    The position generally involves continuous standing, frequent walking, moderate to heavy lifting, moderate to heavy carrying, frequent bending and reaching, frequent climbing of stairs and ladders, and in-person communication
    Compensation and Benefits:
    •    Compensation will be comprised of a salary commensurate with applicant’s previous experience and profit sharing based on meeting established growth metrics
