1. Company Overview
Greenstar Brewing is the first certified organic brewery in the state of Illinois! Our mission is to consistently produce the highest quality organic beer while giving back to the community and supporting sustainable brewing practices. We are owned, operated, and located at the restaurant Uncommon Ground in Lakeview. Uncommon Ground is a Chicago institution and has been a leader in sustainability and green restaurant practices for over 28 years. Our brewery, founded in 2014, seeks to do the same! Our motto is "do-good" beer and we plan to not only make good beer, but also give back to the community with continually developing programs including our growler program that donates a portion of the proceeds from growler sales to local charities.
2. Job Overview
The job requires a motivated, hard working individual, who is committed to sustainability, and wants to play an active role in the organic beer movement. Our Brewer can expect to spend time working both independently on all the aspects of running our small brewpub, while keeping in mind Greenstar’s mission and goals. Our Brewer is expected to be the “face” of our brand at all times, including outside and internal events. Our brewer can expect to participate in any brewery projects such as establishing relationships with other organic brewers and talking about the importance of organic beer. This is a unique opportunity in a growing and ever popular industry to gain organic brewery experience and have fun while doing it!
Including but not limited to:
-Wort production on our 7 BBL brewhouse
-CIP, including tanks, kegs, and brewhouse.
-Packaging beer in kegs
-Ability to lift at least 55lbs, and maneuver 160lbs
-Adhering to all OSHA safety standards
-Proper chemical usage and handling
-Active quality control including sensory analysis and completing the required lab tests
-Adhering to the Greenstar SOP and following the established recipes
-Working to have a constant attitude of improvement to ensure we always put our best beers forward.
-Maintaining the highest quality standards.
-Maintaining appropriate paperwork including inventory, organic certification, and fermentation data.
-Additional beer and brewery related tasks as discussed with the owner.
