Wiley Roots Brewing Company, a multiple GABF medal winning brewery located in Greeley, Colorado, is seeking an experienced brewer to assist in all aspects of beer production from raw materials through post package QA/QC. Essential job duties include (but are not limited to):
Assist in creating, managing and executing the brewing schedule, working independently during brew sessions. Assist in scheduling, managing and executing cellar operations such as monitoring gravities, yeast harvesting and assessment, production record keeping, grinding grain, racking, transferring, cleaning and sanitizing tanks and serving vessels, and perform dry hopping. Assist in scheduling and executing packaging (kegs, bottles, cans).
Calculate and communicate the final yield on packaged products. Identify any key loss areas and/or areas for improvement on packaging runs.
Assist in managing the efficient day to day running of the 7 BBL brewhouse. Maintain a task list for activities associated with the clean stainless, clean barrel aged, stainless mixed culture, barrel aged mixed culture and foeder aged mixed culture fermentation production programs.
Perform quality control work: dissolved CO2 testing, random sample testing and analysis, cellar aging testing and analysis, and sensory evaluation. Lead the sensory evaluation program with taproom staff.
Assist with brewery expansion plans.
Ensure that accurate daily brewing logs (hard copy and electronic) are maintained, and that entries for tax determination are performed. Ensure all recipes and production runs are accurately represented in electronic databases to ensure accurate costing.
Identify and schedule periodic preventative maintenance needs for brewery equipment.
Attend festivals and events as scheduled and assigned.
Serve as a Wiley Roots Ambassador. As a representative of Wiley Roots, it is expected to carry yourself in a professional manner at all times.
Assist in creating and maintaining accurate records for all barrels, including scheduled sensory and quantitative analysis intervals, results of sensory and quantitative analyses, and action plans for barrels nearing maturity.
Ensure accurate inventories for all raw materials supplies are created and maintained. Communicate deficient inventories upon the completion of the inventory to the Director of Brewery Operations to ensure sufficient materials are on hand for standard brewing operations as well as special projects.
Assist in ensuring accurate inventories for finished goods are created and maintained. Summarize and communicate the results of inventories performed timely to the Director of Brewing Operations and the Director of Sales to ensure alignment of sales strategies and production requirements.
Assist in coordinating brewing operations with sales, marketing and taproom operations. Assist in communicating details of beers and beer releases to the Taproom Manager and Director of Sales timely to ensure well informed beer releases.
Communicate with taproom staff to timely address quality and/or consistency issues as they arise.
Display an in-depth knowledge of the ASBC Methods of Analysis. Assist in developing documentation and SOPs to help ensure other members of the brewhouse are adhering to quality standards.
Lead other members of the brewhouse team in the execution of their work. Perform as a resource and first line of defense for identifying production related problems, solutions, and process improvement.
3 years of production brewing experience, or a combination of experience and education.
Must possess a valid Colorado Driver’s License
Degree in brewing science with a focus in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Microbiology, or Food Science/Technology.
Two years of experience in leading others in a production role within a craft brewery.
Forklift Operator Certification

Possess a “can do”, team-first attitude and understand the need to be a self-starter.
Ability to operate packaging lines and a forklift
Ability to safely handle chemicals.
Ability to be frequently exposed to wet conditions and work in extreme cold and/or heat.
Maintain organization, discipline, and be detail oriented. Must possess excellent time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
Must possess a willingness to learn, take direction, and work collaboratively with others.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Must be willing and able to work days, nights, weekends, and/or holidays.
Ability to responsibly work around alcoholic beverages.
