Job Summary

The General Manager is responsible for providing overall direction and vision regarding the daily operations and profitable growth of Imperial Beverage in the North/Central Michigan area. The General Manager leads, manages and holds the management team accountable, while assisting the organization as needed.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participate in the development of the organization's plans and programs as a strategic partner, but particularly from the perspective of the impact on growth
  • Hire, train, evaluate employee performance, and recommend or initiate promotions, transfers, and disciplinary action within the Sales and Operations Team
  • Plan, develop, recommend, and implement changes to the Sales and Operations departments
  • Manage schedules for the Sales Managers and Delivery Supervisors and submit payroll information on a weekly basis
  • Direct the development and execution of short and long-term improvement and growth plans by driving a sense of urgency to keep projects on track
  • Manage Imperial’s daily operations to grow dollar volume while maximizing profits
  • Assist in removing barriers for growth
  • Regularly review effectiveness of plans and initiate appropriate action to mitigate emerging risks or secure emerging opportunities
  • Develop annual business and market plans
  • Present profit and loss statements monthly to the Executive Team
  • Maintain relationship with suppliers by attending appropriate conferences, conducting quality audits and resolving issues
  • Review performance on a quarterly basis
    • Oversee reconciliation and delivery of daily bank deposits
    • Oversee and assist in the maintenance and safety of the Traverse City building, equipment, and people of Imperial Beverage
    • Ensure appropriate resources to support the implementation, development, maintenance and ongoing improvements of operational projects and initiatives
      • Ensure fleet and operations are not utilized to perform tasks or practices that are not profitable and effectively use financial statements and activity reports to determine areas for potential cost reduction and improvement
      • Encourage a safety-focused work environment by updating practices in accordance with new laws and regulations and monitoring injury levels, equipment /product damage levels and compliance with Department of Transportation rules and regulations
      • Maintain complete compliance with the supplier agreements
      • Participate in field work to enable acute awareness of market activity, trends, competition and sales
      • Participate in contract negotiations to ensure effective partnerships
      • Oversee coordination of special events in region
      • Respond to donation requests in assigned region
      • Coordinate with the other departments to correct issues and achieve company sales goals
      • Monitor workloads, overtime, and staffing levels to ensure the proper match of headcount to volume
      • Direct the proper selection, purchase and utilization of company assets in support of operations
      • Maintain relationships with landlord and monitor future building needs
      • Stay up-to-date on new products and the changing needs of the market
      • Attend various community and industry events
      • Build, repair and maintain relationships with key suppliers, key accounts and other Michigan wholesalers
      • Partner with Executive Team to assure compliance with legal and policy issues
      • Prepare and analyze department budget to identify budget needs and/or reductions
      • Provide regular communication of performance to Executive Team
      • Establish credibility throughout the organization to be an effective process leader
      • Be part of the community to build rapport and positively contribute to Imperial’s reputation
