MARKET MANAGER

As Market Manager, you will be an integral part of the Nude sales team and contribute greatly to the growth of our company. The Market Manager represents and manages relationships as Producer/Supplier between Distributors, Retailers, and Consumers within assigned market area. This key position serves as the main point of contact at the local level for our company. The Market Manager will help develop and execute annual plans by ensuring clear communication from Supplier to Distributor and eventually to the market space.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Distributor Management:

  • Build relationships with distributor sales representatives and retailer customers; coach, train, motivate, influence and lead distributor team members and retail buyers on benefits and features of Nude products
  • Establish strong working relationships with key sales management and senior management at our distributors
  • Motivate distributor management and sales force to achieve sales and distribution objectives, including the development and oversight of distributor programming
  • Be prepared to conduct samplings and participate at local events to build awareness and trial for our brands
  • Work with distributor order planning department to ensure proper sales forecasting, product inventory and timely ordering for all company products while demonstrating proper inventory rotation within company guidelines
  • Present and gain agreement on incremental sales and marketing programs on an ongoing basis
  • Maintain regular call frequency with distributors as assigned by Manager
  • Provide direction and support to assigned distributors, managing retail execution plans and activities for assigned markets

Distributor Planning:

  • Develop distributor annual business plans (ABP) and secure distributor commitments to those plans in terms of brand volume, distribution targets, distributor co-op investments, brand standards and all other business-related objectives
  • Execute pre and post programing activity via business review with appropriate levels of the distributor team (brand managers, sales supervisors) to include the business areas of; key account programing, distribution incentives, merchandising and display activity
  • Ensure alignment with Company direction on co-op budget plans/spends as outlined and prioritized in annual planning documents
  • Conduct planned trimester reviews against the ABP. This may include distribution progress, YTD sales volume, pricing benchmarks and price surveys, execution opportunities, competitive activity, top retailer and chain volume trends and co-op budget spending. Develop and gain distributor buy-in and participation with corrective action plans if necessary

Retail Presence:

  • Create and maintain strong relationship with on and off premise retail partners
  • Be acquainted with every key decision maker or decision influencer in designated market areas that account for 50% of market volume. Focus against improving execution of company brands in these independent and chain retail accounts
  • Educate customers about our brand portfolio
  • Attend industry events, local events and tradeshows representing company brands in a positive, professional manner
  • Maintain regular call frequency with assigned retail at on and off call points as assigned by Manager
  • Four days per week targeted at retail monitoring: driving improved execution against key objectives for company portfolio and brands
  • Communicate key observations and account specific opportunities with respective wholesaler management within 48 hours of market visit utilizing established template
  • Ensure wholesaler execution against all chain programs and objectives

Selling & Merchandising:

  • Identify and develop programs for underperforming brands/packages
  • Partner with distributors to close distribution targets by brand and by package 
  • Create account target list by distributor for key packages to improve overall distribution and generate new business for the company
  • Assist company leadership with management of the local sampling plan of company portfolio of brands through interaction with consumers and retailers at local retail samplings, retail work- withs, special events, trade shows, etc.

Communication:

  • Conduct sales meeting presentations with regular frequency to assigned distributor(s) sales team as outlined in direction and in accordance with specifics outlined in annual company planning
  • Conduct regular planning meetings with assigned distributor(s) sales management team in accordance with direction and specifics outlined in annual company planning
  • Communicate clearly internally, both in written and verbal formats, to all key cross functional teams starting with the National and Regional Chain Account Managers and including Marketing, and the Operations teams
  • Disciplined focus on providing written recaps of all meetings, retail days, progress against objectives, co-op budget balances, and any other business or execution opportunities in the market

Other Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsibly manage annual co-op budgets with distributors in compliance with all company policies and procedures
  • Responsibly manage annual travel and expense budget in compliance with company Travel and Expense Policy Guidelines
  • Maintain accurate records of current market pricing for company products and competition. Must maintain and update along with an updated distributor file of current company brand prices to retailer by package
  • Communicate current distributor and market pricing information to company management
  • Initiate interaction with consumers and retailers that may have a quality issue
  • Manage distributor bill back process to ensure alignment with Company policies and that invoices are being processed monthly for distributor partners

You have:

  • Experience in the alcohol industry (familiar with legal structure, promotion requirements, and three-tier system)
  • Beverage alcohol distributor and or retailer sales experience
  • Degree or four years of commensurate beverage alcohol distributor and/or retail management experience
  • Demonstrated ability to call on chain store HQ or Field Managers
  • Desire to learn and acquire new skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills. Must be able to speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations; good listening skills; and strong group presentation skills
  • Understanding of, and ability to perform, trade math as a part of doing business in a “fact-based” selling culture
  • Ability to prioritize and plan work activities; attention to details; effective time management; set goals and objectives
  • Confidence to take independent actions and calculated risks
  • Ability to think creatively and innovatively
  • Valid driver’s license required with an excellent driving record
  • Advanced understanding of Excel, Word, Power Point, Slack, as well as specific applications such as iDig & VIP

Conditions of employment:

  • Must be 21+
  • All persons communicated and interacted with must always be legal drinking age – no exceptions

 

Working Conditions:

  • This position requires travel
  • Must be available for overnight travel for crew drives, meetings, training, and occasional weekend events for Distributor and Retailer entertainment
  • Work five days a week; answer phone and email outside of work hours when necessary
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 35 pounds
  • May be asked to perform additional duties and responsibilities as requested, directed, or assigned by management
  • Reliable car and be able to travel up to 50% based on need

  • Reports to VP of Sales - West
