Milk Bar is looking for a Contract Manufacturing Manager to join our team! As we expand our business, this role will develop best-in-class relationships with third party suppliers of Milk Bar-branded food. The Contract Manufacturing Manager is expected to operate as the key liaison between external suppliers and internal stakeholders, including Culinary / R&D, Supply Chain, Food Safety & Quality (FSQ), Finance, and Marketing. This position is responsible for identifying and building strong dependable supplier relationships as well as ensuring supplier compliance to Milk Bar standards.


  • Lead contract manufacturing sourcing strategy including RFP/RFQ development, supplier risk assessments, price negotiations, awarding of business, and onboarding.

  • Establish and maintain contract manufacturing relationships by acting as the primary point of contact for suppliers on contract issues and production qualifications.

  • Project Management

    • Determine project timelines, tasks, and requirements for contract manufacturer production

    • Lead communication with suppliers and internal stakeholders as part of daily operations and project management, including documenting open issues and team decisions

    • Hold cross-functional and supplier stakeholders accountable for meeting deadlines

  • Regularly meet with contract manufacturers to discuss ways to manage capacity to support the business. 

  • Prospect redundant and overflow capacity for each co-manufactured product line and provide recommendations to plan for unexpected sales growth or an unforeseen constraint to supply

    • Highlight risks and opportunities in a timely manner. Drive corrective actions, as necessary.

  • Partner with suppliers and the internal Culinary and FSQ teams to analyze manufacturability of new products as well as recommend changes that will facilitate efficient manufacturing and lower costs.

    • Reach alignment of internal specs with Culinary / R&D and FSQ

    • Coordinate production trials of new products, and scale up through full production

    • Anticipate and mitigate potential cost or process issues when moving from benchtop to line trial to full production

  • Lead the analysis and negotiations to obtain optimal item pricing while tracking costs and maintaining costing models.

    • Review and understand total cost for all supply decisions

  • Develop and manage Monthly, Quarterly, and Annual Contract Manufacturer Review processes for contract manufacturing partners.

  • Travel around 50% of the time.


  • BA/BS degree Business, Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, or related field; or

  • 3 to 5 years of related experience

  • Lives the Milk Bar spirit and values, with a can-do attitude and team-first, partner-oriented approach

  • Ability to manage third party contract manufacturers

  • Familiarity with Manufacturing environments and Quality requirements

  • Familiarity with production processes, including inventory control and production reporting

  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills

  • Strong communication skills, ability to be firm and precise

  • Project Management skills, including ability to lead large internal & external cross functional teams and meet a set timeline

  • Knowledge of product costing and ability to negotiate optimal pricing

  • Ability to efficiently work independently as well as in a team environment

  • Ability to independently resolve problems and overcome hurdles

  • Ability to take initiative and make an impact

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Knowledge of NetSuite preferred
