POSITION AND ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW:
Locally owned and operated, Fort George Brewery in historic Astoria Oregon crafts original beers distributed throughout the Pacific Northwest, and is now hiring a Head R&D Brewer. Having recently brought our new waterfront production facility into operation, this high-level position will have the opportunity to oversee the small and mid-size brew systems and a team of creative brewers in our original downtown location to craft fun creative and artisan one-offs, draft onlys or small-batch runs, barrel and wild ferment projects, and more. This position will work closely with our marketing, graphic design, and sales teams to coordinate production planning and label design, as well as planning special releases with our members-only bottle club, the Lovell Auto Co. This position will also get to take the lead on beer collaborations and key relationship building, working to find partners within our industry and abroad and participating in events, competitions, and beer festivals.
This position will ensure that these projects run successfully, safely, and efficiently. The Head R&D Brewer oversees or delegates all operational aspects such as scheduling & staff management, creative recipe and technique development, daily task work, production planning & brewing, transfers, packaging, & shipment. Schedule typically M-F but may occasionally include weekends, evenings, holidays and extended hours as needed.

21 years of age or older
Ideally 3-5 years of leadership experience, and 3-5 years experience in a production brewing operations environment; extensive knowledge of the basic principles of production brewery operations, and a love of people management
Ability to communicate in a high-noise environment
General knowledge of occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions associated with work
Ability to safely operate brewery equipment, become Forklift certified within 15 days of hire
Valid OLCC Server’s Permit required upon hire; Cicerone Certified Beer Server Certification or greater preferred
Ability to adapt to frequent changes in workload and adjust priorities quickly as circumstances dictate
