R&D and Innovation Lab Technician 

Proof Positive is seeking an exceptional Lab Technician to join our innovation team. Ideal candidates will be enthusiastic about science-based innovation in emerging categories within the beverage industry and ready to work in a fun and fast paced environment.  You will work directly with our Head of Innovation to help in the execution of our Innovation Road Map. This will include R&D activities to develop brand new technologies in the fermented beverage space, formulation of new products across many categories in beverage industry and improvement of processing at scale.  

This is an hourly position with the opportunity to turn into a full-time position as early as January 2022.  

Key Responsibilities 

  • Planning and executing experiments 

  • Reviewing articles and information that may benefit project development 

  • Documenting and interpret study results. Provide recommendations. 

  • Preparing materials and mediums 

  • Conducting or assisting in sensory panels. 

  • Participating in the generation of new ideas for internal projects and application testing 

  • Supporting the implementation of new products and collaborate with R&D and manufacturing. 

  • Gathering and analyzing relevant data 

  • Documenting of development and/or validation studies. 

  • Performing quality analysis: pH, gravities, %ABV, PCR, TA, Temperatures, Plating, etc. 

  • Calibrating and setting up lab equipment 

  • Maintaining clean and orderly inventory of lab supplies 

  • Develop SOPs 

  • Complying with health and safety guidelines 

  • Ensuring compliance with Company policies and procedures as it relates to client expectations and vendor performance 

  • Maintaining excellent documentation of all transactions, and organize documentation so that it is easily accessible in case of audit, recall, or other needs 

Qualifications and Skills 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science, ideally Microbiology applied to brewing, Food Science or Biology preferred. 

  • Familiar with general laboratory instruments and techniques (e.g. pH meter, spectrophotometer, microscope, serial dilutions, pipetting, aseptic technique, centrifuge, etc.) 

  • Excellent organizational skills, maintain an efficient schedule to drive toward monthly, quarterly and yearly territory goals. 

  • Ability to keep an organized and accurate laboratory notebook 

  • Quick learner and self-starter with ability to complete duties independently 

  • Positive, can-do attitude: Able to work effectively with teammates at all different levels of the company 

  • Must be able to read/comprehend written and oral instructions in English; read and comprehend safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and product recipes/material identifications. 

  • General computer and data entry skills in MS Word and Excel required 

  • Excellent attention to detail 

  • Knowledge of best practices on cleaning and sanitation 

  • Enthusiasm and strong personal knowledge of the brewery/winery industry preferred 

  • Ability to work safely with hazardous chemicals. 

  • Ability to work well with supervisors and co-workers in a lab and office environment 

  • Ability to change tasks quickly and while maintaining attention to detail 

  • Ability to multitask 

Physical Requirements/Work Environment 

  • Must be at least 21 years of age 

  • Must have own vehicle with valid driver’s license and clean driving record 

  • Able to lift up to 25 lbs regularly and 50 lbs briefly 

  • Able to work standing for several hours at a time
