While it’s unlikely that Coke, VA has ever benefited financially from a name that it coincidentally shares with the cola giant, POM Wonderful Presents: The Greatest Movie Ever Sold, PA will definitely be getting its money’s worth.
As reported by philly.com, the western Pennsylvania city of Altoona will receive $25,000 to temporarily change its name to “POM Wonderful Presents: The Greatest Movie Ever Sold,” which is – appropriately enough – the title of a new documentary about advertisers’ publicity stunts.
The deal was organized by the movie’s filmmaker, Morgan Spurlock, who, with a heavy dose of irony and humor, has funded the making of his film by way of several sponsorship agreements including selling the title rights to POM and another one with Altoona based c-store chain, Sheetz.
City officials recently approved Altoona’s renaming, which will begin on April 27 and last until the end of June.
“We’re really excited about it,” said Altoona Mayor Bill Schirf. “Clearly, the people of Altoona have a sense of humor – and an asking price.”
