ST. LOUIS (February 8, 2011) – Nawgan is introducing new, enhanced flavors and announcing an exclusive agreement with Kyowa Hakko U.S.A., the makers of Cognizin® Citicoline. Cognizin has been scientifically proven to improve brain chemistry and function, and is one of the key ingredients in Nawgan that work in concert to boost alertness and attentiveness. In addition, Nawgan will now be classified as a beverage, rather than a Dietary Supplement by the U.S, Food and Drug Administration. This labeling provides further assurance to consumers of the safety and efficacy of this patented formula.
“It’s been an incredible time for Nawgan as we have improved the taste, added a new flavor, and secured an exclusive on an ingredient that is a very important part of the brain-boosting power of our drink,” said Dr. Rob Paul, neuropsychologist at the University of Missouri and creator of Nawgan. “In all this good news, the distinction of the FDA-approved beverage label should not be overlooked. It sets us apart from dietary supplements containing ingredients which have not gone through the rigorous FDA approvals process to prove safety.”
“Cognizin is one of the few brands that have been scientifically studied to be safe and effective in increasing mental activity,” said Jim von der Heydt, Nawgan’s CEO. “We partnered Nawgan with Kyowa Hakko because we share a commitment to create products that are proven safe and effective by the best science.”
Nawgan formula is low in calories (30), sodium and all natural with no preservatives. Cognizin works in concert in Nawgan with three other ingredients: A-GPC – which also supports memory function, lycopene – which reduces inflammation and natural Vitamin E, a proven antioxidant. Measured by sophisticated brain imaging techniques, studies have shown an increase in the energy and electrical activity in the frontal lobe of the brain, the seat of higher thought, decision-making and focus in healthy middle-aged adults who used Cognizin for six weeks.* The results of a clinical trial on the Nawgan formula are expected to be published soon.
Nawgan sales and distribution expands
Nawgan is expanding its line in order to keep up with growing demand. In February a new flavor, Tarocco Orange, will be on shelves along with improved versions of the original two flavors. Nawgan can now be found in 160 Walgreens, 30 Jumpin’ Jimmy’s convenience stores, Straub’s Fine Grocers, and other natural food stores throughout St. Louis, central Missouri and southern Illinois. Nawgan also has a rapidly growing business in natural food stores in Phoenix.
“We are thrilled by the consumer response to Nawgan,” says CEO von der Heydt. “As a Saint Louis-based start-up many retailers, including Walgreens and Straub’s, gave us a chance by stocking the product. We worked hard to drive trial and attract users to those stores and as a result they have a successful new item for their customers.”
Nawgan 4-packs are being added to support demand created by the many loyal users of the product. “Adults should drink Nawgan when they need to feel their best,” Dr. Paul continued. “It’s not so much an energy boost as it is an alertness boost. It’ll help you be at the top of your game as you walk into an important meeting, sit down to take a final exam, or when you just need to do your best work. Regular use, as many as two cans a day, is the best way to gain the benefits of Nawgan.”
Nawgan Products, founded by brain health researcher Dr. Robert Paul and lead by CEO Jim von der Heydt, is a developer of products that support optimal brain function among adults. Nawgan was founded in 2007 and launched its patent-pending beverage designed to sharpen the mind in 2010. Beverage World Magazine awarded Nawgan the 2010 Silver Beverage World BevStar Award in the Functional/Energy category.
