Bolthouse in Play, According to Bloomberg News

Wm. Bolthouse Farms, one of the country’s largest independent beverage makers — and a strong competitor to PepsiCo’s Naked Juice company — is up for sale, according to a recent report from Bloomberg News.

Reported bidders include Campbell Soups Co., which has recently recommitted to its beverage portfolio following a series of wins with its V8 drinks portfolio, and private equity firm the Blackstone Group.

Venture Capital firm Madison Dearborn acquired the previously family-owned juice and agricultural products company in 2005. Reports indicate that Madison Dearborn may also be considering taking the company public to maximize its returns.

Madison Dearborn had reportedly been seeking $2 billion for the juice company; more than one bid submitted to the company was in excess of $1.5 billion, according to the Bloomberg story.
