Gassed Up: Pepsi To Launch Nitro Soda

Pepsi is the latest and biggest beverage maker to hit the gas, as the company today announced the launch of a nitrogen-infused version of its trademark soda called “Nitro Pepsi.”

Led by categories like cold brew coffee, craft beer and tea, both draft and packaged versions of nitro-infused beverages have enjoyed growing popularity in recent years as a way to inject a new sensory experience into familiar drinks. Last month, Starbucks, which distributes branded RTD coffee products in North America through a partnership with PepsiCo, announced it will offer nitro cold brew at all its U.S. locations by the end of this year.

In promising “velvety, cascading foam,” Nitro Pepsi aims to replicate that drinking experience as the “world’s first nitrogen-infused soda” in two varieties: Classic Soda and Vanilla.

“We couldn’t be more excited about how far we have come with the development of ‘Nitro Pepsi,’” said Todd Kaplan, VP of Marketing for Pepsi, in a press release. “With Pepsi, we are going all in on delivering the most exciting experiences and offerings to our loyal fans – from engaging marketing programs to disruptive new product innovation. With the creation of the world’s first ever nitro-infused cola, we will be able to introduce a creamier, smoother product, reimagining cola in a way that only Pepsi can, to a whole new set of consumers.”
