Pitbull and Dance Team Named HALO Sport Investors

Organic sports drink maker HALO Sport has announced Grammy-award winning artist Armando Christian Perez, a.k.a. Pitbull, has joined the company as an investor and ambassador.

According to a release, Perez, 39, will become “a significant shareholder” in the brand and will advise the HALO team on a variety of fronts, including brand development, investor relations and marketing initiatives.

“When we were introduced to HALO, we were excited to be part of the next hydration revolution and new generation of VitaminWater,” said Perez in the release. “We’re delighted to officially announce our partnership with Team HALO and look forward to actively working with them in keeping the world hydrated while at home and on the road. Dale!”

In addition to a music career that has seen him sell millions of records worldwide, Perez has also become a prolific endorser and businessman, working on commercial projects with brands like Walmart, Kodak, Dr Pepper and Boost Mobile, among others. He owns a stake in Florida-based ready-to-drink coffee brand MADE Coffee and is also the majority stakeholder in Voli Vodka, a line of low calorie spirits.

Perez won’t be coming alone: as part of the deal, his female dance team, dubbed “The Most Bad Ones,” will also become shareholders in HALO, which was co-founded by Anshuman Vohra and Robin Shobin. A portion of sales will also go towards SLAM (Sports Leadership and Management) Academy, a Miami-based charter school founded by Perez.

“I am excited that Pitbull has taken a strong interest in supporting a business that aims to better the health of Americans,” said Shobin, also the company’s chief product officer, in a release. “Sugar laden drinks continue to bring a host of health problems globally and Pitbull’s support in our mission is invaluable.”

Available in eight SKUs in 16 oz. PET bottles, New York-based HALO is available in over 700 stores nationwide.

Perez’s announcement as an investor comes one month after HALO Sport announced a six-figure investment from Molson Coors distributor Gold Distributing Holdings Inc. in May.

Note: A previous version of this story stated Perez’s age as 34. The article has been updated.
