William Grant & Sons Introduces Three New Rare and Unique Whiskies

The Kininvie 23 Year OldLatest Additions to the Portfolio are a Testament to the Family Owned and Operated Business

NEW YORK, October 2014 – William Grant & Sons, the family-owned independent distiller, is excited to announce the addition of three new expressions to the William Grant & Sons award winning Scotch whisky portfolio: Kininvie, Ladyburn Single Malt Scotch Whisky and The Girvan Patent Still Single Grain Scotch Whisky. Each unique release shares their own remarkable story which further builds upon the William Grant & Sons heritage and history of rare and unique spirits.

After years of anticipation, Kininvie, a unique single malt distillery founded on six copper stills nestled in the hills of Dufftown, will introduce its most prized creation. First distilled 23 years ago in July 1990 after Janet-Sheed Roberts, Granddaughter of William Grant opened the distillery and crafted in secret for decades, this precious liquid is finally being released with a select amount available in the United States this fall. The awaited release of this premium 23 year old single malt Scotch whisky is the first time a new Speyside single malt created by the William Grant & Sons family has been available to the public since  The Balvenie. Each and every half-bottle, to ensure more units are available to whisky enthusiasts, will display the year of distillation, batch number, and individual bottle number. The Kininvie 23 Year Old – Batch #2 will be available in a 375 ml bottle with a SRP of $150.

Ladyburn Single Malt Scotch Whisky is the ultimate collector’s item. Created at a Single Lowland Malt Scotch Whisky distillery that was closed in 1975, having been operational for just nine years, Ladyburn was the shortest working distillery in the history of Scotch whisky. The 2014 release of Ladyburn Single Malt Scotch Whisky Aged 41 Years marks the first of an exclusive number of releases of unique liquid that has spent the last four decades maturing. Only 400 750 ml bottles of this highly sought after single malt will be available in the United States this year with a SRP of $2,000, and once the ancient reserves are depleted, this unique and one-of-a-kind single malt cannot be replicated or replaced.

In 1963 the William Grant & Sons family introduced the Unites States market to the Single Malt category with the release of Hamish Robertson’s Glenfiddich Straight Malt. This pioneering family is once again proving to be leading innovators with the release of the first ever single grain Scotch whisky. The Girvan Patent Still Single Grain Scotch Whisky portfolio is the first major single grain release in the United States, thus creating the category with not one but three expressions including the no age statement expression No. 4 Apps, utilizing a first-of-its-kind patented vacuum distillation technology in addition to two aged expressions, a 25 year old and a 30 year old.

When William Grant & Sons built one of the most modern distilleries in the world at the time near Girvan on the Ayrshire Coast, they sealed their destiny by taking control of their ingredients and ensuring continuity of supply of the very best grain whisky, completely self-supplied by Girvan. The first apparatus installed at the Girvan distillery, known as No. 1 Apps, continues to make exquisite whisky today and over the last 50 years, has been joined by four other stills including a new type of patent still introduced in 1992 by Master Distiller John Ross. This unique process of vacuum distillation known as No. 4 Apps results in a sweeter, cleaner and purer spirit.

Both distilled in the original No. 1 Apps installed in 1964 and matured in American white oak casks, the 25 year old and the 30 year old Girvan expressions present unprecedented character and flavor. A must have for any collector or enthusiast, both whiskies offer rich and complex flavors such as vanilla, toffee apple, spicy tannin and citrus. No. 4 Apps will have a SRP of $45, the 25 year old, SRP $399, and the 30 year old, SRP $599.

Andrew Nash, William Grant & Sons’ Category Marketing Director for the Scotches explains, “William Grant & Sons continues to add to our historic award winning portfolio by offering these storied variants for collectors and Scotch whisky enthusiasts. Each new whisky represents a different value and facet of our company, whether from a historical or innovative angle. As a company always looking ahead, we are very excited to champion these rare and extraordinary whiskies.”
