Review: Acai + Coconut Water

With the coconut water craze still in full swing, new fruit juice and coconut water blends are rapidly being brought to market. Acai Roots’ Acai Juice + Coconut Water is one of those products, with a 100% juice USDA Organic mixture of acai and coconut water. For those who are familiar with these flavors, the taste is quite predictable: the stronger tart flavor of the acai masks almost all of the coconut water flavor. The result is something that tastes like thinned-out acai juice. It’s hard to say if that’s a good or bad thing, especially since the flavor of this product is quite drinkable and enjoyable. Nutritionally, the product does not have any meaningful electrolytes on the nutrition panel, so the coconut water seems to have little impact on this product outside of the potential marketing benefit for the initial purchase of this product. Packaging is, at least at the time of review, a 32 oz. bottle with a full wrap label. The large size is somewhat perplexing as this definitely seems like a product that would do better in single serve. Otherwise, the design of the label lacks the cleanliness that is found in other acai and coconut water brands. The way that they’ve stacked the flavor name (with a different font for each line) is hard on the eyes to the point that they could easily miss it when panning the cooler. Plus, the design of the logo seems at odds with the style of the rest of the bottle (we’d change the logo rather than the theme). Overall, it’s a nice tasting drink, but what’s inside the bottle is not exactly what we were expecting.
