Review: Bhakti Chai Noir

Bhakti Chai’s “Noir” is a holiday blend that has been added to the brand's lineup in 2015. It combines Bhakti's base of chai with fresh pressed ginger and chocolate, which results in something that’s decadent and spicy. Aside from being a bit sweet (each 8 oz. serving has 24g of sugars), the product is really well crafted. The spices from the chai complement the chocolate and ginger quite nicely, while the base of almond milk helps make it rich and creamy. Being gluten-free and vegan is definitely a plus and the company has managed to do this without hurting the flavor of the product at all. And of the two holiday flavors, we definitely prefer this one over the Nog. Packaging and branding are, in our opinion, still the weakest part about Bhakti Chai. This particular product comes in a 32 oz. size, which, like its other products, is a glass bottle shaped like those typically used for condiments. But it’s really the label that seems like it needs work in terms of its visual appeal. In addition, we really don’t like how the company lists the ingredients and then a secondary callout for the gums and stabilizers. This feels misleading in that the actual ingredient list isn’t actually a list of everything that’s in the product. Still, for what this product is, which is a fresh bottle of a excellent tasting chai, we think Bhakti Chai has done a nice job of crafting something that’s innovative and very enjoyable.
