Review: Hawaiian Gingerade

Big Island Organics Hawaiian Gingerade is basically a ginger-infused bottle of lemonade -- and it’s a good one at that. The USDA Organic certified product has a simple list of ingredients, including water, lemon juice, fresh-pressed Hawaiian ginger juice, and agave nectar. Using Hawaiian yellow ginger provides a nice way to bolster the authenticity of the product. Plus, the ingredient adds a nice hit of heat to the mix, helping to cut the tartness of the base lemonade flavor. The agave has been added at just the right level (there are 17 grams of sugars per 8 oz. serving), giving the drink sweetness but not overwhelming your palate. We definitely like this approach, especially since the flavor is ultimately something that is very smooth and well balanced. In terms of the packaging and design, the eye immediately goes to the words “Hawaiian Gingerade” and skips over the brand logo. That’s probably not the best thing in the world, but the product’s Hawaiian theme does create something memorable for the consumer to come back to (although we bet they’d be hard pressed to remember the name). Regardless, continuing to develop the branding would be a good thing. Overall, a very nice start for Big Island Organics.
