Blending almond milk, coffee, and chai, Dirty Chai is the most adventurous and complex of the three Califia Farms cold brew flavors that we sampled. It’s one of those flavors that doesn’t exactly whet the palate -- you really have to try it to understand it. Once you do, it’s actually quite good. The chai and the cold brew combine to create something that’s unique in flavor, with the spice of the chai adding some depth to what would otherwise be a pretty light coffee-flavored beverage. Cane sugar (there are 13g of sugars per bottle) provides the sweetness, while the almond milk gives the product it’s rich and creamy body. Nutritionally, the product has a modest 110 calories, 2g of protein, and contains calcium and iron. All in all, it’s an enjoyable product. From a branding and positioning perspective, this particular variety looks the most similar to Califia's almond milk products. We’re not sure if that’s good or bad, but it doesn’t scream “coffee” the way the Triple Shot does. Furthermore, it’s hard to tell how a flavor like this, which is certainly somewhat exotic, will fare as opposed to more common ready-to-drink coffee flavors like vanilla. In any event, Califia has put its best foot forward with the label design, which is clean and very easy on the eyes. Overall, this is a unique flavor as far as coffee products go (we’ve only seen it in one other brand), and the company has done a very solid job with its execution.
