Review: Triple Shot

The most basic flavor of Califia Farms’ cold brew coffee line is this variety, Triple Shot. The flavor is straightforward and mainstream, with a “milky” base from the almond milk, a mild coffee flavor from the cold brew, and some slight sweetness from the added sugar (10g per bottle). To that end, it’s definitely as straight of a replacement for the mainstream ready-to-drink coffees as you’ll find. However, the use of cold brewing doesn’t really come through, nor does it taste like what we’d expect from something called “triple shot” (obviously, they can’t call it "double shot," a phrase owned by Starbucks). The coffee flavor would have to be stronger for us to change our opinion on that. A name like “original” or “classic” might be a more accurate descriptor of what’s inside the bottle. Visually, we love the look of the bottle. The dark color is a nice contrast to the color palette used on Califia's flagship line of almond milks or its more brightly colored juice products. However, the dark color of the label does imply (at least to us) something that’s going to be a full-bodied coffee. Nonetheless, it is a very nice looking bottle and probably the best looking of the three. Overall, we like this product, especially in terms of its mainstream potential, but the appearance of it, despite being very aesthetically pleasing, seems a bit out of sync.
