If classic horchata isn’t your thing, Califia Farms’ Vanilla Coconut Horchata might be more your thing. Starting with a base of rice milk and almond milk (it omits the tigernut milk found in the other variety), this product also adds coconut cream, sea salt, cinnamon, and sugar as key ingredients. The coconut cream is pretty heavy, while the vanilla, which is from flavoring, is a much more subtle flavor. Fortunately, the coconut cream goes really well with the base horchata flavor. It does make the product have an extra rich flavor, but it works. If it weren’t for the slight cinnamon note to the finish, we honestly might not even peg this as an horchata, but it would still be very enjoyable nonetheless. Packaging is a 48 oz. multi-serve bottle, which is the same container used on Califia's other multi serve flavors. As we mentioned in the review of Classic Cinnamon, the label, which is the same template as Califia Farms’ other products, is maybe a bit too similar looking. A lot of this has to do with the emphasis on the logo and the word “Pure,” which keeps the eye from reading the Horchata logo that’s right at the waist of the bottle. We’re not sure what the solution is to this, but we think it will be a challenge for Califia Farms as long as they continue coming out with products that use this label structure and a white background. Overall, a unique flavor that’s well executed, but we’d like to see more differentiation in the package.
