The Cucumber Melon flavor of Capital Kombucha is another enjoyable and unique small batch product. Simplicity is a big part of why we like this product. It’s made with only three ingredients, including kombucha, fresh squeezed watermelon and fresh squeezed melon. Outside of the kombucha, which contains sugar (it’s needed for the fermentation process) this product has no added sweeteners and has just 4g of sugars per 12 oz. bottle. Instead, all of the flavor and the sweetness comes from the watermelon and cucumber. And that’s exactly what it tastes like -- a very light but effervescent blend of juice and kombucha. The kombucha does have some slight fermented flavor to it, but it complements, rather than gets in the way of, the fruit flavor. For 45 calories, it’s really hard to beat the amount of flavor that you’ll find inside this product. It’s extremely gulpable and enjoyable, and the finish is crisp and clean. Visually, we like the look of this product’s label. Unlike some of the brand's other flavor varieties, it uses two colors -- one for the background and one for the name. This makes it easy to read, while also maintaining the integrity of the brand. However, we really do wish the formulations and labeling were a bit more consistent. Some flavors have cold-pressed juice, others have added sweeteners, and the labels aren’t visually consistent. Plus, there might just be too many flavors in the lineup. Either way, this is definitely one of the better flavors -- and we hope it becomes a model for the others as it’s really exceptional.
