Capital Kombucha’s Mango Chili varitey is a small batch product that is made with kombucha, agave, mangoes, and serrano chilis. With only 50 calories and 5g of sugars per 12 oz. bottle, the product has a light and slightly dry flavor. The base kombucha flavor has no vinegar note to it at all. Instead, it is very mellow and quite drinkable, especially with the touch of sweetness from the agave. As for the added flavors, the subtle tropical flavor of mango goes quite nicely with the mellow heat of the serranos, resulting in something that has a nice sweet and spicy flavor to its body. Perhaps more importantly, both of these flavors pair very nicely with the effervescent flavor of the kombucha. All in all, this is a very enjoyable and unique take on kombucha and is one of those flavors that would definitely keep us coming back to this brand. Packaging is a 12 oz. clear glass bottle, which gives the product a very soda-like look. We’re not sure if this is the best format in the long run, but the company has done a nice job of creating something that looks like a craft beverage. The label design is simple and clean, with a picture of Washington, D.C. used as the backdrop. It’s intuitive and easy to read, which are always paramount when it comes to label design. In addition, we like the label that the company has hand applied to the cap, which calls out the expiration date and also reinforces the handmade beginnings of the product. Overall, a very enjoyable and well-executed kombucha that offers a unique flavor pairing.
