Review: Raspberry Ginger

Clearly Kombucha’s Raspberry Ginger is a blend of organic raw kombucha, red raspberry juice concentrate (less than 1 percent juice), and natural flavors and colors. The product, which has 30 calories and 8g of sugars per 14 oz. bottle, is very light and gulpable. In some ways, the product is almost on par with a sparkling flavored water in terms of just how light it is. But in other ways, like the bite of the kombucha, which is fermented, it’s a totally different experience. Still, for a product that’s called raspberry ginger, we were somewhat disappointed to see no ginger and relatively little in the way of juice. If nothing else, we’d like to see the colors disappear from the ingredient list as this feels somewhat counter to what consumers will expect from something that’s organic and raw kombucha. Otherwise, we really like the lighter flavor profile that the company has created. On the outside, the product has been given a major packaging upgrade since we first saw it a few years back. It’s a custom design, albeit one that’s pretty simple in its shape. It has a slight taper to it, which you might miss due to the placement of the label, and the word “RAW” on the bottom of the bottle. The label is clean and eye catching, with a metallic “C” cutting through it. We like that there’s no clutter to it and that the company kept it very easy to read. Overall, we think there’s still some formulation adjustments that could be made, but we wouldn’t change a thing about the packaging.
