Coba’s latest entry is their take on the dairy-based aguas frescas drink known as horchata. Unlike other ready-to-drink horchatas that we’ve sampled, Coba Horchata isn’t overly milky or thick, opting for a lighter bodied formulation that allows the cinnamon and rice flavors to have more of a presence. The product is moderately sweetened (to the tune of 44g of sugar per bottle) with organic cane sugar, but overall the product is refreshing rather than sickly sweet. All in all, the formulation that they’ve chosen is very enjoyable and more authentic than the competing products (which drink more like flavored milk). We’d say exactly the same for the packaging and branding, which has a cleanly executed Mexican styling to it that manages to feel modern, wholesome, and authentic rather than simply ethnic. The Coba bottle, which is modeled after an aguas frescas jar, adds a nice visual point of differentiation and also feels nice in your hand. Overall, Coba has done a really nice job with this product.
