Eric’s Famous Energy Cola is a sugar and raw honey sweetened cola that has been enhanced with caffeine, ginseng, guarana, and B vitamins in order to make it an energy drink. The cola itself is quite enjoyable, with added kola nut giving it an earthy rather than artificial flavor. The energy ingredients give it a slight bite to the finish, but it’s definitely not something that gets in the way of the experience. As far as being an energy drink goes, the label doesn’t state how much caffeine is in the drink, but we definitely felt some kick. The issue that we see for this product is one of perception; not having a flavor profile of a traditional energy drink might impact how this drink performs in the mind of the consumer (keeping in mind that energy colas have tried and failed in the past). Visually, we like the concept of making micro sodas look like craft beer, but the metallic backing makes it look more like a mainstream beer than something of super high quality. Still, it does make the product catch your eye over some of the other craft sodas out there. And trying to sell an energy drink from a package that looks like a soda doesn’t seem like a bad approach to take. Overall, it’s a unique approach, but it’s one that’s well executed.
